Central Arkansas Scale Modelers - Judging Criteria
Category 1300 - Gunpla
Designed by David Branson III of the Arkansas Gunplamo Association (AGA) and modified for this contest by Alex Silvia (Fongores MS Hangar), these rules were designed to reflect the challenges Gunpla Builders face during their builds. Central Arkansas Scale Modelers (CASM) uses the "Open Judging System" of which an explanation can be found here.
With the "Open System" each model entered has a chance of winning a Gold, Silver, Bronze, or nothing.
All Gold winners in a "Sub-Category" are then judged against each other to find the best of the "Sub-Category". Those three winners then compete for "Best Gunpla" in the show.
This allows any person with knowledge in Gunpla to help judge should the need arise as long as it is not their own piece. Any person who helps judge can still earn a Gold, Silver, or Bronze, but bars them from being in contention for a "Best of" award.
Below is the criteria the kits will be judged upon.

Category 1 (Top Coat) thru Category 4 (Overall Presentation) is worth 5 points at 1 point per square and the Final Category (Custom Work) is worth 2.5 points at .5 points a square. Placement in the contest is based on the following earning of points:
0 - 11 Points - Does not place.
12 - 15 Points - Bronze
16 - 18 Points - Silver
19 - 20 Points - Gold
This means any custom work acts as "bonus points" that could possibly put you at a higher spot than initially awarded.
Top Coat/Paint/Panel Lines/Weathering: Gloss and Flat finishes should be smooth with no frosting. Paint should be a consistent finish with trouble spots only visible with a pen light. Panel lines should be clean and stay within panels. Weathering should be consistent and realistic.
Nub/Mold Lines/Seam Lines: Nubs should be sanded smooth with no dips or gashes. Mold lines and ejector pin marks are expected to be filled and sanded away. Seam Lines and gaps may be filled and sanded smooth.
Stickers/Decals: Decal silvering should only be apparent with a pen light. Decals should conform well to all surface detail.
Overall Presentation: Kit is expected to be posed dynamically whether it be standing or off the ground on a display base. Below is a guide by Dengeki Hobby on how to pose your kit if its standing
Custom Work/LED/Pla Plate/Kit Bashing: Modifications and other advanced techniques are how a model can stand apart from the rest. Seamless execution of any conversion kit or kit bashes are expected. It should look like one model not several types put together. Resin kits should be constructed with no apparent glue or pinning visible. Wires for LED modifications should be hidden unless worked into the diorama as a whole. Pla plate and scribing should flow with the kit.
