Demonstration Topics Needed!
Please contact Dave Stilwell for demonstration topics that you would like to see at the 2012 club meetings and suggestions on who could do the demonstration. Contact Dave at dstilw@acxiom.com or dmstilwell@comcast.net.
Sproo-Doo Contest Theme Suggestions
On behalf of the contest committee, Brianna Childres asked the club members for suggestion for the theme of the upcoming contest. The need for a contest theme was discussed based on the usual low number of entries at the past three shows. It was opined that the low number of entries was due to themes that were too restrictive and it was suggested that a broader themed category be used this year. If there continues to be a low number of entries then the club should consider eliminating the Theme award category. Ideas offered by the collective body included: Arkansas History; Arkansas Military History; Post-Apocalyptic Little Rock; Paint it Black; Paint it Pink; and War Machine. Further suggestions should be sent to Brianna Childres at Brianna.Martin.is@gmail.com.
March Meeting Date Change
Due to a conflict in our meeting place schedule, we need to change the date of the March meeting to 3/17/12. The luck of the Irish will be with us!
Library Display
Dave Stilwell obtained the name of the Fletcher Library, in Little Rock, manager and plans to contact the manager about displaying CASM models in the entry way display case. He would like members of the club to donate models for the display. He hopes that the display could become a traveling display that could be moved to other library locations to inform the community of the modeling club and attract fellow modelers who are unaware of the club’s existence.
Group Builds for 2012
Due to the usual low turnout for the group builds, the E-Board decided to have only two group builds in 2012. The builds would be during the July and December meetings. After some discussion, it was decided that the July group build theme would be: 1960’s.
Show-N-Tell Changes
Participants of the live stream podcast of the club meeting have a desire to see the models of Show-n-tell. The present camera angles are such that the models cannot be seen very well and live stream viewers usually stop watching. The club is about the models and the fellowship of modelers. So we would like the Show-n-tell models to be placed on a table close to the podcast camera and have presenters talk about their models in front of the table so that the camera can have a better look at the models and the live stream participants can better see the models. We do not have the equipment necessary to walk about the room and show the models while the presenter is speaking while seated at the table.
Sproo-Doo Show Committee Volunteers
Brianna Childres requested members who are interested in being part of the Contest Committee meet after the meeting.
Hobbytown USA Card Drawing:
Dave Wassell: $5.00; Rick Knapp: $10.00; Ken Childres: $15.00
Demonstration
Brianna Childres presented a detailed explanation of how to navigate the CASM Website and how to post comments and pictures on the club forum. Brianna did a great job and our hope is that more club members will post projects, finished models, and write comments. Members who completed the club survey reported that they desired fellowship with fellow modelers. A way to have fellowship between club meetings is on the club forum. In order for the forum to be interesting there has to be posts of models. In order for members to post models, there has to be comments and discussion or the original person who posts will lose interest in posting.
Show-N-Tell
Rick Knapp presented an Italieri M-24 Chafee project.
Richard Buzbee presented Monarch’s Ghost of Castle Mare and a Russian KV1 with Russian infantry.
Nguyen Truong brought a project but had to leave the meeting early before he had the opportunity for presentation.
Ron Leker presented his completed Trumpeter E-100 Jagdpanther and B-1 Centaro.
Ken Childres presented his WIP Trumpeter PR60P and BTR BK. Along with the canvas top he fabricated out of Apoxie. The resin casted canvas top may be purchased from Tank Guys and is based on the Ken’s Sculpt.
Dave Stilwell presented the Trumpeter F-100 F Super Sabre and discussed his use of Alclad paint.
Daris Long presented the Saladin Mk-II that he had built at an earlier date, took it apart, and rebuilt it.
Cliff Bullock presented a diorama of a Pak 40 75mm German Antitank gun.
Ken Fausett presented a kitbashed Revell 1940 Coupe street rod and painted! The paint finish was beautiful.
Business Meeting
It was moved by Ron Leker and seconded by Daris long that the 2012 Sproo-Do contest be held at the Arkansas Health Center Multipurpose Room in Benton Arkansas. The motion passed unanimously. There was a consensus of the group that the club coordinate with the Recreation Activity Leaders at the health center to include residents of the health center who build models. A table dedicated to their models will be featured.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:30 PM
