Show Reports: Noel Lawson reported that he, Rusty Nail, and Bob & Mona Hiatt attended the Tulsa Figure show. All won awards, and Noel commented on the high quality work at the show. Rusty gave a demo at the show.
Brent Bristow reported that he & Heather, Ken & Bri Childres, Rusty Nail, Ron Leker, and Josh & Janel Swift attended Wonderfest in Louisville, KY. Rusty served as a judge for this show. The show had 573 high quality models, and all members who entered the contest won awards.
Sproo-Doo: The show is scheduled for September 26 at the Statehouse Convention Center. The show theme is “50 Shades of Green.” Cliff Bullock suggested that members could find models at HobbyTownUSA or Hobby Lobby for as low as $10 that could be donated for the raffle.
Bri Childres presented the totals cost for ordering the awards, and the memberships approved the expense. She also emphasized the need for more sponsorships.
Set up will be different this year, and there will be more room for vendors, and also a place for participants to sit and visit during judging.
Pre-registration will be open in the middle of July.
This year, the show will include the Battle of Champions, where participants can bring models that have won high awards at previous shows and are no longer eligible to compete in the show. These models can only be considered for the Battle of Champions Award, and not a regular Sproo-Doo award. A separate fee of $5 per model will be required to register these models, and these funds will go the USS Alabama.
HobbyTown: Ron Leker told us that HobbyTown will be carrying gaming merchandise and will have an area to play Warhammer 40K. Help is needed painting miniatures and boards.
Group Build: The next group build is due at the December meeting. The theme is “Anniversary.” It can relate to any important anniversary relevant to 2015.
