E-Board Meeting - March 26
Members present: Ken Childres, David Stilwell, David Wassell, Tom Brown, Brianna Childres
Absent: Joshua Swift
The meeting was called to order by President Ken Childres at 10:00 A.M.
Business/ Contact Cards.
Ken Childres passed around a proposed Business/ Contact Card that will eventually be used to distribute to local hobby shops and other situations as needed. A consensus of the group was that the cards were very well done and the E-Board encouraged their adoption and production for distribution.
Club Brochure.
Ken Childress reported that he has found a tri-fold template that will be workable for the club brochure. The E-Board agreed with Ken that the brochure should include: a history of the club; activities of the club that include meetings, kids outreach, website, model show, and modeling demonstrations; photos that show a group shot of the club members, kids outreach, classes at Pulaski Tech, demonstrations, and a random sample of completed models from all genres modeled with varying qualities of workmanship; a method for online access to the club; and a picture and directions to Hobbytown USA where the club meets.
Improving Relationships with Local Hobby shops.
Club officers are going to begin meeting with the various local hobby shop owners once the brochure and business cards are printed to discuss how the club and the hobby shop can work together to increase interest in both organizations. Dave Wassell has a good relationship with Daryl at Rail and Sprue and will be meeting with him prior to other club officers meeting with him to lay the groundwork for improved relations between he and the club. Ken Childres and Tom Brown will be visiting the owner of One Track Mind with the goal of establishing a closer relationship. Brianna Childres, Ken Childres, and the Contest Committee will be meeting with Brian from Game Zone Alpha to discuss the upcoming contest and to further develop the relationship between his store and the Club. Ken Childres and Brianna Childres will be talking with Roger from Hobbytown USA to further develop the relationships between the two organizations. Contact between the officers and the store owners will be ongoing to foster, develop, and strengthen a close bond and sense of partnership in the modeling community.
Club Meeting Demonstrations
The E-Board and Dave Stillwell went through the list of club regular attendees and brainstormed about different basic and advanced techniques that they would be great at demonstrating. It was a consensus that it would be better for the club if all members were involved in the demonstrations. It is understood that some members may not feel confident in their own modeling skills, especially when compared to some of the great modelers in the club, but we also realize that putting on a demonstration improves the modeling skill of the presenter more than the learners. While the club is composed of attendees with a large range of modeling skills, we thought that including all members in the presentations would strengthen the bond of fellowship in the club. Dave will be contacting different regular attendees to ask for their assistance in the demonstrations and brainstorm with them topics they would be confident to demonstrate.
Pulaski Tech Contest April 23rd.
The E-Board discussed our desire to provide as much assistance to Ken Leslie and Dave Branson as possible during their upcoming contest and show. We will be encouraging the club members to attend the show and to make themselves available should there be a need for judges. We have noticed that in past years that club members tend to leave the venue to enjoy lunch with one another instead of making themselves available for judging the entries to the contest which has increased the burden of the show on Ken and Dave. We believe a strong partnership with the PTC model classes and associated activities strengthens the modeling community and is something that we desire to do.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 A.M.
