Tracks Made Easy
By Rick Knapp
Treadheads, tired of spending gobs of time prepping individual track links? TRex has come to the rescue!
The TRex 3D-printed track links are highly detailed (each link has casting marks) and easy to assemble. The illustrations on box front and side show what to do—small-headed pins are inserted on the inner side of the links, larger-headed pins outside. Panther tracks are directional, so the inner and outer sides of the treads will be different for the right and left-hand track runs. The close-up picture on the box front shows a left track section.
Two things to note: First, these track links are advertised as needing no cleanup, and that’s almost true. Look closely, and you’ll find some tiny nibs that are easily removed. A big bonus, though, is that no tedious boring out is needed prior to pinning links together. The second thing to be aware of is that although TRex claims “no glue required,” it’s a good idea to secure the heads of the pins with a tiny dab of glue. I’m using slow-setting super glue.
I estimate that a determined modeler could complete two track runs in 2 to 3 hours with these TRex links. Are they worth their price? I’d say absolutely!
